Built around a park that was made for a garden show.

Locksmith in Sendling-Westpark

Sendling-Westpark lies southwest of the inner city around the Westpark, a large landscaped park laid out for the 1983 international garden exhibition and still one of the best in Munich.

The housing around it is mostly large estates from the 1960s and 1970s — lifts, central locking systems, and basements that run under several buildings at once.

What it costs in Sendling-Westpark

Sendling-Westpark is in one of the Munich zones, which means travel is fully included in the fixed price — neither as a flat rate nor by the kilometre. What decides the price is which kind of opening it is and, for a door that has simply latched shut, what time it is.

Google address check
For address suggestions and — only for addresses in zone 3 — for calculating the road distance, the address you enter is transmitted to Google Ireland Limited. Details are in our privacy policy.

The address decides the zone, and the zone is decided by its postcode. In Munich zones 1 and 2 travel is included; in zone 3 we calculate it from the actual driving distance.

When this price does not apply

  • Security locks of a higher resistance class
  • Multi-point locking (several bolts at once)
  • Security bars or additional locking devices
  • Technically difficult opening: jammed or warped door, broken bolt
  • Replacement parts such as cylinder, mortise lock or escutcheon
  • A situation that turns out to differ from what was described

In these cases our technician quotes the price before starting work, in writing. If you decline, there is no charge.

Where Sendling-Westpark is

Sendling-Westpark sits southwest of the inner city around the Westpark. The park itself, the Partnachplatz and the area around the Passauerstraße are the reference points. The main routes are the Garmischer Straße, the Fürstenrieder Straße, the Aidenbachstraße and the Plinganserstraße to the east. The Waldfriedhof, one of Munich's largest cemeteries and effectively a woodland, forms the southwestern edge. Sendling adjoins to the east, Laim to the north, and Thalkirchen and Obersendling to the south. The district is well served by the U-Bahn and the Mittlerer Ring runs through it, which makes it quick to reach at any hour.

What the buildings are like

Predominantly large estates from the 1960s and 1970s in rows and point blocks, four to twelve storeys, mostly with lifts. Where a building is on a central locking system, one key opens the entrance, the flat and the cellar compartment, often the underground garage too — and your own keyring tells you whether yours is one of them. The basements are extensive, running under several buildings with intermediate doors, and compartments are grouped centrally rather than placed under each staircase. Between the estates lie older, smaller-scale areas in Mittersendling and terraced rows at the edges, where the locking is conventional and has been replaced piecemeal.

Getting to you

Sendling-Westpark is very well connected by the Mittlerer Ring, the Garmischer Straße and the Fürstenrieder Straße. The estates generally have visitor parking close to the entrances, so we can usually stop near the door. What takes time is inside rather than outside: one address can serve several staircases, and the numbering is not always visible from where a vehicle can stop. Give the building number, the entrance and the floor.

What we are usually called for in Sendling-Westpark

  • Flat doors in large estates with system-bound cylinders
  • Cellar compartments at the end of long corridors with intermediate doors
  • Underground garage access doors and side entrances
  • Building entrance doors on locking systems with several staircases
  • Terraced house doors and garages in the outlying rows

Questions from Sendling-Westpark

My key opens the front door, my flat and the cellar. What if I lose it?

It becomes a matter for the building rather than only for you, which is worth understanding before it happens. That arrangement is a central locking system, standard in the estates here. A replacement cylinder cannot be bought separately because it has to match the system, so the decision and the cost run through the Hausverwaltung. Tell them the day you lose it. We can of course open your door in the meantime.

I cannot reach my cellar compartment. Is that a smaller job?

Usually simpler and cheaper than a flat door, yes — cellar compartments are generally secured more lightly. The complication here is the route: the basements run under whole rows with intermediate doors along the way, and your compartment may be under a different building from your flat. Say which building the basement entrance is in, and mention whether the intermediate doors need a separate key.

Which building am I in? They all look the same from the road.

That is exactly why we ask for the building number and the entrance rather than just the street. The estates were built as single schemes, so the blocks repeat by design. Adding the floor and which side of the courtyard you are on removes the remaining ambiguity. It sounds fussy and it saves five minutes at three in the morning, which at night rates is not nothing.

And the questions that are the same everywhere
