Densely built, well connected, and quietly one of the easiest districts to reach.

Locksmith in Laim

Laim lies west of the Westend, between the railway lines and the Fürstenrieder Straße. It is a residential district without a tourist landmark, which is part of why rents here held out longer than in the neighbouring quarters and why a lot of people move here when they want space without leaving the city.

It is also unusually well connected — the Laim station is a major junction — and straightforward for us to get to at any hour.

What it costs in Laim

Laim is in one of the Munich zones, which means travel is fully included in the fixed price — neither as a flat rate nor by the kilometre. What decides the price is which kind of opening it is and, for a door that has simply latched shut, what time it is.

Google address check
For address suggestions and — only for addresses in zone 3 — for calculating the road distance, the address you enter is transmitted to Google Ireland Limited. Details are in our privacy policy.

The address decides the zone, and the zone is decided by its postcode. In Munich zones 1 and 2 travel is included; in zone 3 we calculate it from the actual driving distance.

When this price does not apply

  • Security locks of a higher resistance class
  • Multi-point locking (several bolts at once)
  • Security bars or additional locking devices
  • Technically difficult opening: jammed or warped door, broken bolt
  • Replacement parts such as cylinder, mortise lock or escutcheon
  • A situation that turns out to differ from what was described

In these cases our technician quotes the price before starting work, in writing. If you decline, there is no charge.

Where Laim is

Laim sits west of the Westend, bounded by the railway to the north and the Fürstenrieder Straße to the west. Laimer Platz is the practical centre. The Fürstenrieder Straße, the Gotthardstraße, the Landsberger Straße and the Agnes-Bernauer-Straße carry most of the addresses. Laim station and the extensive railway lands form the northern edge — a substantial barrier that shapes how the district connects to its neighbours. The Westpark adjoins to the south, the Westend to the east and Pasing to the west. Laim is one of the more densely populated districts in Munich, though it rarely feels like it from the street.

What the buildings are like

Mixed. Along the main routes and around Laimer Platz, multi-storey residential buildings — a few from the founding years, most from between the wars and the post-war decades. In the quieter side streets, terraced rows and smaller apartment buildings. Lifts are present in some post-war buildings and absent in most of the older ones. The larger developments have central locking systems and shared basements; the smaller buildings tend to have conventional cylinders that have been replaced individually over the years. Ground floors along the Landsberger Straße and at Laimer Platz are shops and small businesses.

Getting to you

Laim is well connected by the Fürstenrieder Straße, the Landsberger Straße and the Mittlerer Ring. Parking is tighter than in the outer districts and considerably easier than in the inner city. The one structural point worth knowing is the railway: the tracks to the north cut the district off from Neuhausen and Moosach except at a few crossing points, so an address that looks close on a map may require a detour. The house number and floor are what help; the district is compact enough that nothing else is needed.

What we are usually called for in Laim

  • Doors that latched shut in post-war apartment buildings
  • Terraced house doors in the quieter side streets
  • Cellar compartments in smaller apartment buildings
  • Building entrance doors on locking systems in the larger developments
  • Shop doors on the Landsberger Straße and at Laimer Platz

Questions from Laim

My building has no lift and I am on the fourth floor. Does that cost more?

No. There is no time component in our price at all — whether the job takes five minutes or fifty makes no difference to what you pay, and stairs are not charged for. The only reason to mention the floor is so the technician brings what he needs up in one trip. Older buildings in Laim frequently have no lift, so this comes up constantly and has never changed a price.

I am on the north side near the tracks. Is that harder to reach?

Slightly, and it is worth a word on the phone. The railway lands cut Laim off from the districts to the north except at a few crossings, so an address that looks close to Neuhausen on a map may require going round. It affects the route rather than the price — travel is calculated from the actual road distance, which already accounts for the detour. Just give the street and house number and the calculation handles it.

I run a shop on the Landsberger Straße. Do you do commercial doors?

Yes, and shop doors along that stretch are routine work. Tell us whether it is the front door with a roller shutter or a rear entrance off the yard, because those are usually completely different locks. And have something to hand showing you may open the premises — a lease, a business registration, or ID matching the name on the door. Outside business hours costs more, which the price list shows openly.
