Putzbrunn sits southeast of Munich between Ottobrunn and Grasbrunn. The main village gathers around the church of St. Stephan and the Rathausplatz. To the northwest lie Solalinden and the Waldkolonie, both within a wooded area. The main routes are the Rosenheimer Landstraße, the Wasserburger Landstraße and the connection towards Ottobrunn. A smaller commercial estate lies at the edge of the village. Ottobrunn adjoins to the west, Grasbrunn to the north and Hohenbrunn to the southeast.

In the main village, detached, semi-detached and terraced houses of the 1960s to 1990s predominate, together with individual smaller developments. Around the old core there is older building, partly of agricultural origin. Solalinden and the Waldkolonie are different in character: houses on large wooded plots, well spaced, many with long drives and several outbuildings — garden houses, sheds, garages — whose locks are usually far simpler than those on the front door.
