A former airfield, a university, and streets of houses around them.

Locksmith in Neubiberg

Neubiberg lies southeast of Munich between Ottobrunn and the city boundary at Perlach. Most of it is houses with gardens from the post-war decades, laid out on a regular street pattern.

Its eastern side is taken up by the campus of the Universität der Bundeswehr, the Bundeswehr's own university, built on a former military airfield. It brings students and staff from across Germany and abroad — and it is not a place an outside locksmith can enter.

What it costs in Neubiberg

Neubiberg is in zone 3, the surrounding district, so travel is added to the opening — calculated over the whole journey by road from our premises to your address, not from the boundary onwards and not as a flat rate for the municipality. Within a single municipality the routes often differ by several kilometres, so a flat rate would either overcharge you or be unsustainable for us. The calculator shows the amount as its own line.

Google address check
For address suggestions and — only for addresses in zone 3 — for calculating the road distance, the address you enter is transmitted to Google Ireland Limited. Details are in our privacy policy.

The address decides the zone, and the zone is decided by its postcode. In Munich zones 1 and 2 travel is included; in zone 3 we calculate it from the actual driving distance.

Where Neubiberg is

Neubiberg sits southeast of Munich, between Ottobrunn and the city territory at Perlach, with the district of Unterbiberg to the west. The Rathausplatz and the S-Bahn station form the centre. The extensive campus of the Universität der Bundeswehr occupies the east, on the site of a former airfield, with the Werner-Heisenberg-Weg running through it. The main routes are the Hauptstraße and the Kaiserstraße. Ottobrunn adjoins to the east, Unterhaching to the west and Hohenbrunn to the south. The municipality is compact, and distances within it are short apart from the campus, which is large.

What the buildings are like

Haustür eines Einfamilienhauses, Zylinder und Schutzbeschlag erkennbar

Predominantly detached and semi-detached houses from the 1950s to the 1980s on medium-sized plots, each with its own front door, garage and garden. Terraced rows and individual apartment buildings supplement them, concentrated near the station and there on central locking systems. Unterbiberg to the west has older building of village origin with correspondingly older locks. The university campus is a closed area with its own access organisation, including student accommodation administered by the institution rather than let privately.

Getting to you

Neubiberg is reached by the A8 and the Hauptstraße and lies close to the city boundary, so the journey from Munich is short. Distances within the municipality are manageable, though Unterbiberg is a separate settlement a little way west. Parking is unproblematic and it is generally possible to stop directly outside the property. For the campus, access runs through the gate and the institution rather than through the street — a fact worth establishing on the phone rather than at the barrier.

What we are usually called for in Neubiberg

  • Front doors of detached and semi-detached houses with garages
  • Terraced house doors in the settlement rows
  • Flat doors in the apartment buildings near the station
  • Older building in Unterbiberg with locking that has grown over time
  • Garden gates and secondary entrances on the plots

Questions from Neubiberg

I live in student accommodation on the university campus. Can you let me in?

No, and this is one of the clearer cases. The Universität der Bundeswehr is a closed site with its own access organisation and its own security. Accommodation there is administered by the institution, not let privately, and an outside locksmith has no standing to open anything inside the perimeter. Contact the campus duty office — there is an out-of-hours arrangement precisely for this. A privately rented flat in the town is a different matter entirely.

Is Unterbiberg part of Neubiberg?

Yes, it is a district of the municipality, lying a little to the west of the main centre. The building there is older and of village origin, which shows at the doors: locks that have grown over decades rather than being replaced as a set. For pricing it makes a small difference through the travel component, which is calculated from the actual road distance to your address rather than from the municipality name.

I have lost the only key to my house. What happens after you open it?

We open the door, and then there is a decision to make rather than an automatic sale. Whether the cylinder should be replaced depends on whether the key can be connected to your address — lost with a wallet or anything showing where you live is a different situation from dropped somewhere with no link to you. We will tell you which we think applies, including when we think you do not need to spend the money. If it does need changing, it takes minutes.
