Four settlements in one municipality, several kilometres apart.
Locksmith in Haar
Haar lies east of Munich on the S-Bahn line towards Ebersberg, adjoining the city at Trudering. Its best-known feature is the hospital — a large psychiatric and neurological clinic with a listed campus dating from 1905, which for decades gave the town's name a meaning it has largely outgrown.
What matters practically is that Haar is not one place. The main town and the outlying settlements of Salmdorf, Gronsdorf and Ottendichl are separate, and several kilometres apart.
What it costs in Haar
Haar is in zone 3, the surrounding district, so travel is added to the opening — calculated over the whole journey by road from our premises to your address, not from the boundary onwards and not as a flat rate for the municipality. Within a single municipality the routes often differ by several kilometres, so a flat rate would either overcharge you or be unsustainable for us. The calculator shows the amount as its own line.

Where Haar is
Haar sits east of Munich on the S-Bahn towards Ebersberg. The main town gathers around the station and the church of St. Konrad. South of it lies the extensive hospital campus, laid out from 1905 as a pavilion complex and partly under heritage protection. The settlements of Salmdorf, Gronsdorf and Ottendichl lie north and east, separated from the main town by open land. The main routes are the Wasserburger Landstraße, the Leibstraße and the Münchener Straße. Munich city territory adjoins to the west at Trudering, close enough that the boundary is not obvious on the ground.
What the buildings are like

In the main town, a mixture of detached and terraced housing, apartment buildings and larger developments, the latter on central locking systems. The hospital campus is a world of its own: staff housing, administrative buildings and clinical buildings, partly listed, with its own access organisation — for anything inside it the hospital's own facility management is the right contact rather than an outside locksmith. Parts of the former hospital grounds have been redeveloped for housing in recent years. Salmdorf, Gronsdorf and Ottendichl are village in character, with detached houses and some agricultural building.
Getting to you
Haar is well and quickly reached by the Wasserburger Landstraße and the A99, and the main town borders Munich city territory almost directly. The outlying settlements are the qualification: Salmdorf, Gronsdorf and Ottendichl lie several kilometres from the centre, across open land, and are a noticeably different journey. That is why the travel component is calculated from the actual road distance to the address rather than one figure for the whole municipality — the difference within Haar is real.
What we are usually called for in Haar

- Staff housing and short-term tenancies around the hospital

- Cylinder changes on frequent tenant turnover
- New flats on the redeveloped former hospital grounds

Questions from Haar
I live in staff accommodation at the hospital. Can you let me in?
It depends which door, and the distinction matters. The clinical and administrative buildings have their own access organisation, and the hospital's facility management is the right and only proper contact for those. Staff flats vary: some are administered like ordinary tenancies, some belong to the campus system. Say which you have when you call. If it turns out to be a campus matter we will tell you on the phone rather than after driving out.
Am I in Haar if I live in Gronsdorf?
Yes — Gronsdorf, Salmdorf and Ottendichl are all parts of the municipality of Haar, though they are separate settlements with open land between them. For us the practical consequence is distance: a journey to Gronsdorf is not the same as one to the station area, and the price reflects that because travel comes from the actual road distance. Give the street and house number and the calculator handles the rest.
The new flats on the old hospital grounds — anything special about them?
They are recent building, so expect a central locking system: one key for the entrance, the flat, the cellar and often the garage. Opening the flat door is ordinary work. Replacing the cylinder afterwards is not something to arrange privately, because a standalone replacement would not open the shared doors — that runs through the building administration. Worth knowing before you lose a key rather than after.
And the questions that are the same everywhere
- Do you actually speak English? Yes. By phone or on WhatsApp — writing is often easier than a call in a second language. Full answer
- What does a locksmith cost in Munich? It depends on the situation, the time and the driving distance. You get the final figure in writing before work starts. Full answer
- Is travel included in the price? Inside Munich, yes. Beyond it, 1.50 € for every kilometre of the whole journey from our premises — not just the part outside the city. Full answer
- Will I have to prove who I am? Yes. Photo ID with that address, or ID plus a document linking you to it. If it is all inside, say so when you call. Full answer
