Where Fürstenried is
Fürstenried sits in the southwest of Munich. Schloss Fürstenried, the Forstenrieder Allee as the main axis, and the Fürstenried West estate around the Züricher Straße are the reference points. The Graf-Lehndorff-Straße, the Neuriederstraße and the Hofbrunnstraße carry the remaining addresses. The Forstenrieder Park — several square kilometres of woodland — forms the western boundary and marks the edge of the city. Hadern adjoins to the north, Solln and Obersendling to the east. Two halves. Fürstenried West is a planned 1960s estate of rows and point blocks, four to twelve storeys. The basements are extensive, with long corridors and compartments a considerable distance from the staircases. Forstenried, the older part, consists of terraced and detached houses with their own front doors, garages and garden gates, and conventional locking replaced individually over the years. Newer apartment building fills gaps between the two.
Getting to you
Fürstenried is well connected by the Fürstenrieder Straße, the Forstenrieder Allee and the motorway to the south. Parking is easy and the large estates have visitor spaces near the entrances. As with every planned estate, the building number and the entrance matter more than the street: one address commonly serves several staircases that are indistinguishable from the road. In the house areas of Forstenried the usual applies — house number and a word about the gate if the entrance is not obvious.
