Student halls, a 1920s estate, and the stadium at the northern end.
Locksmith in Freimann
Freimann stretches north of Schwabing along the Ungererstraße. Its southern end holds two things worth knowing about: the Studentenstadt, one of the largest student housing complexes in Germany, and the Alte Heide, among the oldest row-housing estates in the country.
Further north the district turns commercial, and at its far end sits the football stadium at Fröttmaning. For a place with so many international residents, it is remarkably little known.
What it costs in Freimann
Freimann is in one of the Munich zones, which means travel is fully included in the fixed price — neither as a flat rate nor by the kilometre. What decides the price is which kind of opening it is and, for a door that has simply latched shut, what time it is.

Where Freimann is
Freimann runs north of Schwabing along the Ungererstraße and the motorway. In the south lie the Alte Heide estate and the Studentenstadt on the Christoph-Probst-Straße — a complex of towers and halls housing several thousand students, with its own U-Bahn stop. Further north are commercial areas along the Frankfurter Ring and the Heidemannstraße. At the northern end, Fröttmaning holds the stadium and the trade fair grounds begin. The main routes are the Ungererstraße, the Heidemannstraße and the Frankfurter Ring. Freimann shares an administrative district with Schwabing, which explains why some addresses here carry a Schwabing postcode.

In the south, the Alte Heide estate — built in the 1920s and among the earliest row-housing schemes in Germany — and the Studentenstadt with towers and halls from the 1960s and 1970s. The halls consist of small apartments with simple cylinders and centrally administered locking, where a lost key is a matter for the housing administration rather than for the resident. The Alte Heide flats have had cylinders fitted over the years. Further north the picture changes to commercial premises: storage buildings, workshops and offices with roller shutter doors and commercial locking.
Getting to you
Freimann is very well connected by the Ungererstraße and the motorway junctions, with wide roads that stay clear at night, and parking is easy throughout the district. The exception is match days at the stadium and large events at the trade fair, when traffic on the northern approaches is heavy and journeys take considerably longer. If that is the case, we will say so on the phone rather than after. Within the Studentenstadt, give the building and floor: the towers look alike and are numbered rather than named.

Questions from Freimann
I live in the Studentenstadt and I am locked out. Who do I call?
The housing administration first, not us. The Studentenstadt is centrally managed with its own key administration and a caretaker service, and there is an arrangement for exactly this — it is also considerably cheaper than a locksmith. If you cannot reach anybody and it is the middle of the night, call us and we will tell you honestly whether we can help with your particular door. A privately rented flat elsewhere in Freimann is a different matter.
There is a match at the stadium. Will that delay you?
On the northern approaches, yes, and we would rather say so than promise otherwise. Fröttmaning is at the far end of the district and match days bring heavy traffic to the roads leading there. The southern parts of Freimann — Alte Heide, Studentenstadt — are usually unaffected. We give a realistic estimate for your specific address, and on those days it will be a more cautious one.
My address says Schwabing but I live in Freimann. Which is it?
Both, in a sense. Freimann shares an administrative district with Schwabing, so some addresses here carry a Schwabing postcode even though the place is a good way north. It makes no difference to us: give the street and house number and the route follows from that. The travel component is calculated from the actual distance, not from what the postcode suggests.
And the questions that are the same everywhere
- Do you actually speak English? Yes. By phone or on WhatsApp — writing is often easier than a call in a second language. Full answer
- What does a locksmith cost in Munich? It depends on the situation, the time and the driving distance. You get the final figure in writing before work starts. Full answer
- Is travel included in the price? Inside Munich, yes. Beyond it, 1.50 € for every kilometre of the whole journey from our premises — not just the part outside the city. Full answer
- Will I have to prove who I am? Yes. Photo ID with that address, or ID plus a document linking you to it. If it is all inside, say so when you call. Full answer
