Post-war rows in the north, and a new quarter on a former barracks.
Locksmith in Am Hart
Am Hart lies in the north of Munich between Milbertshofen and the city boundary. Almost all of it is post-war housing: rows of three to five storeys from the 1950s and 1960s, laid out with generous space between them.
On its eastern side, the former Bayernkaserne — an army barracks until 2012 — is being turned into one of the largest new residential quarters in the city.
What it costs in Am Hart
Am Hart is in one of the Munich zones, which means travel is fully included in the fixed price — neither as a flat rate nor by the kilometre. What decides the price is which kind of opening it is and, for a door that has simply latched shut, what time it is.

Where Am Hart is
Am Hart sits in the north of Munich between Milbertshofen and the city boundary. The area around the Harthof, the Neuherbergstraße and the Am Hart station form the local centre. The main routes are the Schleißheimer Straße, the Knorrstraße and the Riesenfeldstraße. To the east lies the site of the former Bayernkaserne, where a new quarter is under construction. Moosach adjoins to the west, Feldmoching to the north and Milbertshofen to the south. The district shares an administrative unit with Milbertshofen, and the name Am Hart is used more precisely by residents than by maps.
What the buildings are like

Almost entirely post-war: rows from the 1950s and 1960s, three to five storeys, with lifts in the later buildings. The Harthof estate and individual newer developments complete the picture. Central locking systems are common in the rented developments. Cellar compartments are generally secured more simply than the flat doors above them. On the former barracks site, new building with modern systems and underground parking is arriving in stages. Balcony and secondary doors in the older blocks are frequently still in original condition and correspondingly simple.
Getting to you
Am Hart is well connected by the Schleißheimer Straße and the motorway junctions to the north. Parking is easy, the developments have visitor spaces, and it is usually possible to stop close to the entrance. On the former barracks site the situation changes as construction proceeds: access roads open and close, and navigation data lags behind. If you live there, saying which approach is currently usable is worth more than the address itself.

Questions from Am Hart
My balcony door is original and does not lock properly any more. Is that worth fixing?
Yes, and it is more relevant than people assume. Balcony and terrace doors in post-war blocks were often fitted with simple hardware that was never intended to resist anything, and on lower floors they are a far more likely way in than the flat door. Lockable handles and additional catches address that at modest cost. If the door no longer closes properly at all, that is usually alignment rather than the lock — and adjustment is cheaper than replacement.
I live on the old Bayernkaserne site. What should I tell you?
Which access road currently works, along with the address. The quarter is being built in stages, so streets appear, close and change direction faster than navigation data updates. One sentence about which approach is open saves considerably more time than it costs. If your building has a name or a section number as well as a street address, give that too.
Is Am Hart the same as Milbertshofen?
They share an administrative district and are two distinct places. Milbertshofen is south, around the Olympiapark and the BMW plant; Am Hart is north, mostly post-war housing. Residents distinguish them clearly. For us it only affects the route, which follows from the street and house number — and the travel component, calculated from the actual distance rather than the district name.
And the questions that are the same everywhere
- Do you actually speak English? Yes. By phone or on WhatsApp — writing is often easier than a call in a second language. Full answer
- What does a locksmith cost in Munich? It depends on the situation, the time and the driving distance. You get the final figure in writing before work starts. Full answer
- Is travel included in the price? Inside Munich, yes. Beyond it, 1.50 € for every kilometre of the whole journey from our premises — not just the part outside the city. Full answer
- Will I have to prove who I am? Yes. Photo ID with that address, or ID plus a document linking you to it. If it is all inside, say so when you call. Full answer
