Cooperative estates, long basements, and one very large shopping centre.

Locksmith in Moosach

Moosach lies in the northwest of Munich. Most of it was built between the 1950s and the 1970s, much of it by housing cooperatives, and that shapes almost everything about how the doors here work.

The Olympia-Einkaufszentrum on its eastern side is one of the largest shopping centres in southern Germany, and the old village centre around St. Martin — which predates all of it by several centuries — is a few hundred metres away and looks it.

What it costs in Moosach

Moosach is in one of the Munich zones, which means travel is fully included in the fixed price — neither as a flat rate nor by the kilometre. What decides the price is which kind of opening it is and, for a door that has simply latched shut, what time it is.

Google address check
For address suggestions and — only for addresses in zone 3 — for calculating the road distance, the address you enter is transmitted to Google Ireland Limited. Details are in our privacy policy.

The address decides the zone, and the zone is decided by its postcode. In Munich zones 1 and 2 travel is included; in zone 3 we calculate it from the actual driving distance.

When this price does not apply

  • Security locks of a higher resistance class
  • Multi-point locking (several bolts at once)
  • Security bars or additional locking devices
  • Technically difficult opening: jammed or warped door, broken bolt
  • Replacement parts such as cylinder, mortise lock or escutcheon
  • A situation that turns out to differ from what was described

In these cases our technician quotes the price before starting work, in writing. If you decline, there is no charge.

Where Moosach is

Moosach sits in the northwest of Munich. The Moosacher St.-Martins-Platz holds the old village centre; the Olympia-Einkaufszentrum on the Hanauer Straße is the commercial one; and Moosach station connects both. The main routes are the Dachauer Straße, the Pelkovenstraße, the Baubergerstraße and the Feldmochinger Straße. Milbertshofen with the Olympiapark adjoins to the east, Neuhausen-Nymphenburg to the south and Feldmoching to the north. The district is large and its two centres have almost nothing in common, which is worth knowing when someone tells you they live in Moosach.

What the buildings are like

Predominantly developments and cooperative estates from the 1950s to the 1970s in rows and blocks, three to eight storeys, frequently with lifts. Central locking systems are the norm in these: one key opens the building entrance, the flat and the cellar compartment. The basements are extensive and run under several buildings, with intermediate doors along the way and compartments grouped rather than placed under each staircase. Among them lies the old centre around St. Martin, with small-scale older building and individual houses whose cylinders have been replaced over the years. Around the shopping centre there are commercial premises and newer residential building.

Getting to you

Moosach is well connected by the Dachauer Straße, the Mittlerer Ring and the motorway junctions to the north. The estates generally have visitor parking close to the entrances, so we can usually stop near the door. Around the Olympia-Einkaufszentrum traffic is heavy during opening hours and on Saturdays. Within a large estate, the building number and staircase matter more than the street: one address can serve several entrances that are indistinguishable from the road.

What we are usually called for in Moosach

  • Flat doors in cooperative estates with system-bound cylinders
  • Cellar compartments at the end of long basement corridors
  • Building entrance doors of large developments with several staircases
  • Older houses in the village centre at St. Martin with cylinders fitted later
  • Underground garage access doors in the developments

Questions from Moosach

I live in a Genossenschaft flat. Who decides about the lock?

The cooperative, in most cases. A housing cooperative owns the buildings collectively and its members hold shares rather than ordinary tenancies, so the building entrance and usually the flat cylinder belong to the cooperative rather than to you. We can open your door against the usual proof of entitlement. Replacing a cylinder afterwards goes through the cooperative office — and they may well hold a spare key, which would save you the call entirely.

My cellar compartment is several buildings away. Is that normal here?

Yes, and it surprises nearly everyone who has not lived in an estate of this era. The basements were laid out as continuous corridors under whole rows, with compartments grouped centrally rather than under each staircase and intermediate doors along the way. Tell us which building the basement entrance is in rather than just your own address, and bring the key for the intermediate doors if you have a separate one.

Which Moosach do you mean — the old centre or the shopping centre?

For finding you it matters, which is why we ask. The two are a few hundred metres apart and completely different: small older houses around St. Martin, large estates and commercial building around the OEZ. The street and house number resolve it, and the travel component is calculated from the actual address rather than from the district — so you also get the right price rather than a district average.
