Villas, the Arabellapark, and a good deal of corporate housing.
Locksmith in Bogenhausen
Bogenhausen lies east of the Isar, north of Haidhausen, and covers two quite different worlds. Along the Prinzregentenstraße and around the Herzogpark there are villas and large old apartment buildings backing onto the Englischer Garten. Around the Arabellapark there are high-rise residential towers, a hospital and a good deal of company-let accommodation.
If you have been relocated to Munich by an employer, there is a fair chance you were housed in one or the other — and a fair chance nobody explained how the building's key system works.
What it costs in Bogenhausen
Bogenhausen is in one of the Munich zones, which means travel is fully included in the fixed price — neither as a flat rate nor by the kilometre. What decides the price is which kind of opening it is and, for a door that has simply latched shut, what time it is.

Where Bogenhausen is
Bogenhausen sits east of the Isar and north of Haidhausen. Its western edge, along the Prinzregentenstraße and around the Herzogpark, borders the Englischer Garten and is one of the most expensive addresses in the city. Möhlstraße and Richard-Strauss-Straße run through this part. Further east lies the Arabellapark, built from the 1960s onwards around Rosenkavalierplatz — residential towers, offices, a shopping centre and the Bogenhausen hospital, with its own U-Bahn station. Northeast of that the district continues into Oberföhring and Englschalking, which are quieter and mostly houses with gardens. Several consulates and international schools are in or near the district, which is part of why the international share of residents here is high.
What the buildings are like

Three distinct patterns, and which one you are in changes what a lockout involves. In the villa areas: detached houses with substantial front doors, multi-point locking, protective escutcheons and often a separate garage or side entrance. Around the Arabellapark: residential towers with central locking, where one key serves the building entrance, the lift lobby, the letterbox and the flat — so the building operator, not the resident, controls what happens if it is lost. In Oberföhring and Englschalking: detached and terraced houses, each with its own front door, garage and garden gate, usually with retrofitted cylinders of varying age. Company-let and furnished flats are common across all three, which means keys are frequently held by an employer or an agency rather than the occupant.
Getting to you
Bogenhausen is well connected by the Prinzregentenstraße, the Mittlerer Ring and the Effnerstraße, and reachable quickly from the centre outside rush hour. Parking is rarely the problem here that it is in the inner districts: in the villa streets and the house areas it is usually possible to stop directly outside. The Arabellapark is different — the towers have underground garages and the surface parking around Rosenkavalierplatz fills up, and finding the right entrance among several identical ones takes longer than the drive. For a tower block, give the building number and the entrance letter if there is one, not just the street.
What we are usually called for in Bogenhausen
- Front doors of detached and terraced houses in Oberföhring and Englschalking
- Flats in the Arabellapark towers, where one key serves the whole building
- Houses with substantial security hardware and protective escutcheons
- Garage doors and side entrances at detached houses
- Furnished and company-let flats where the employer or agency holds the keys

Questions from Bogenhausen
My flat is company-let and my employer holds the contract. Can you open it?
Yes, but the entitlement question is slightly different and worth settling on the phone. Before opening we check that you are entitled to enter. With a company let, your name may not appear on any tenancy document, so the useful proof is different: a letter from the employer, the relocation agency confirming, post addressed to you at that address, or ID showing it. This is a common situation in Bogenhausen and there is nearly always a workable answer — we would just rather find it before driving out.
I live in one of the Arabellapark towers. Is that different from a normal flat?
Yes, in one respect that matters. Those buildings use central locking systems, where a single key opens the entrance, the lobby, the letterbox and your flat. Opening your flat door is ordinary work. What is not ordinary is replacing the cylinder afterwards: it belongs to a system covering the whole building, so a standalone replacement would leave you unable to get through the front door. That decision goes through the building management, and we would tell you that rather than fitting something that does not fit.
I want better security on my house. Where should I start?
Not with the most expensive cylinder, which is where most people are steered. Start with the escutcheon — the fitting around the cylinder — because a cylinder that can be gripped with a tool and snapped is the most common forced entry there is, and covering it is inexpensive. Then check the cylinder does not stand proud of the fitting. After that, hinge-side pins, and only then the cylinder grade. The police in Munich run a free crime prevention advice service, and we mention them deliberately: they have nothing to sell you.
And the questions that are the same everywhere

- What does a locksmith cost in Munich? It depends on the situation, the time and the driving distance. You get the final figure in writing before work starts. Full answer
- Is travel included in the price? Inside Munich, yes. Beyond it, 1.50 € for every kilometre of the whole journey from our premises — not just the part outside the city. Full answer
- Will I have to prove who I am? Yes. Photo ID with that address, or ID plus a document linking you to it. If it is all inside, say so when you call. Full answer
