Houses with gardens, garages and gates — rarely just one lock.

Locksmith in Trudering

Trudering lies in the east of Munich, between Berg am Laim and the city boundary. It is one of the greenest parts of the city and almost entirely a district of houses rather than flats, which makes it popular with families and unusual for Munich.

That changes what a lockout normally is here. Rather than one flat door, a typical address has a front door, a garage, a garden gate and often a cellar entrance from outside — four locks of different ages, and rarely one key.

What it costs in Trudering

Trudering is in one of the Munich zones, which means travel is fully included in the fixed price — neither as a flat rate nor by the kilometre. What decides the price is which kind of opening it is and, for a door that has simply latched shut, what time it is.

Google address check
For address suggestions and — only for addresses in zone 3 — for calculating the road distance, the address you enter is transmitted to Google Ireland Limited. Details are in our privacy policy.

The address decides the zone, and the zone is decided by its postcode. In Munich zones 1 and 2 travel is included; in zone 3 we calculate it from the actual driving distance.

When this price does not apply

  • Security locks of a higher resistance class
  • Multi-point locking (several bolts at once)
  • Security bars or additional locking devices
  • Technically difficult opening: jammed or warped door, broken bolt
  • Replacement parts such as cylinder, mortise lock or escutcheon
  • A situation that turns out to differ from what was described

In these cases our technician quotes the price before starting work, in writing. If you decline, there is no charge.

Where Trudering is

Trudering sits in the east of Munich between Berg am Laim and the city boundary. It divides into Alt-Trudering around the church of St. Peter und Paul, the heavily wooded Waldtrudering to the south, and Neutrudering and Straßtrudering. The main routes are the Truderinger Straße, the Wasserburger Landstraße and the Friedenspromenade. Trudering station is a junction where the S-Bahn and the U-Bahn meet, which makes the district well connected despite its distance from the centre. The Trudering woods form the southern edge, and the Messestadt Riem adjoins to the north — a different world of new apartment blocks that shares an administrative district with this one.

What the buildings are like

Overwhelmingly detached, semi-detached and terraced houses, many from the 1930s to the 1970s, with newer building on subdivided plots. In Waldtrudering the houses stand on large wooded plots, some with long driveways where the house is not visible from the road. Practically every property has a garage and a garden, and therefore several separate locks: front door, garage door and often a garage side door, garden gate, and a cellar entrance from the garden. The ages of those locks vary widely within one property, because they were rarely replaced at the same time.

Getting to you

Trudering is reached by the Wasserburger Landstraße and the motorway junctions to the east. Parking is unproblematic and it is generally possible to stop directly outside the property. The complication is size: the district covers a large area, and Waldtrudering in particular has long streets with plots set well back from the road. Where the house is not visible from the street, the house number alone may not be enough — a note on the gate or the driveway saves a slow crawl along a dark road.

Questions from Trudering

I am locked out and the spare key is with my parents in another city. What are my options?

That is the common case in a house district and it is straightforward. We open the door the same way as any other — via the latch if it merely closed behind you, by picking the cylinder if it was locked. Nothing about the missing spare makes it harder or more expensive. Afterwards it is worth arranging one nearby: a neighbour you trust, or a key safe if there is nobody. Losing a key is inconvenient; having no spare within reach is what turns it into a call-out.

My garage door has stopped working. Is that something you do?

It depends which part has failed, and the honest answer has two halves. A mechanical garage lock or a manually operated door is routine and carries a fixed price. An electrically operated door we can usually get open via its manual release, but repairing the drive or the controller is the manufacturer's work rather than ours — and for those we do not quote a fixed price in advance, because we would be guessing. A photograph on WhatsApp usually tells us which of the two you have.

The house is set back from the road and hard to find at night. What helps?

Anything that identifies the entrance rather than the address. Which side of the street, what the gate looks like, whether the drive is shared with a neighbour, whether a light is on. In Waldtrudering especially, plots are large and wooded and house numbers are frequently unreadable from the road after dark. Thirty seconds on the phone about this saves several minutes of driving slowly past you.
