A 1934 model estate of very small houses — and a pilgrimage church older than the city around it.
Locksmith in Ramersdorf
Ramersdorf lies southeast of Haidhausen. Its centre is the Mustersiedlung, a model housing estate built in 1934 of deliberately small terraced and settlement houses — an experiment in cheap housing whose results are still lived in.
Around it stands extensive post-war building, and at the heart is Maria Ramersdorf, a pilgrimage church that predates everything else here by several centuries.
What it costs in Ramersdorf
Ramersdorf is in one of the Munich zones, which means travel is fully included in the fixed price — neither as a flat rate nor by the kilometre. What decides the price is which kind of opening it is and, for a door that has simply latched shut, what time it is.

Where Ramersdorf is
Ramersdorf sits southeast of Haidhausen. The Ramersdorfer Kirchplatz with the pilgrimage church of Maria Ramersdorf is the historic centre. The Rosenheimer Straße runs east as the main axis, with the Balanstraße to the north. The Aribonenstraße, the Führichstraße and the Chiemgaustraße carry the remaining addresses. Haidhausen adjoins to the north, Neuperlach to the south and Obergiesing to the west. The district shares an administrative unit with Perlach, which is far larger and quite different, so an address described only as "Ramersdorf-Perlach" says very little.
What the buildings are like

Schmale Wohnungstür im Treppenhaus eines Zeilenbaus
The Mustersiedlung of 1934 forms the core: small terraced and settlement houses on narrow plots, built as a demonstration of affordable housing and largely still in their original footprint. Around them lies extensive post-war building in rows, three to five storeys, and individual newer developments. Near the pilgrimage church there is older, small-scale building. The 1930s houses have had cylinders replaced piecemeal over ninety years, frequently with parts that do not quite suit the door, and their cellars are individual rather than shared.
Getting to you
Ramersdorf is well connected by the Rosenheimer Straße, the Mittlerer Ring and the Chiemgaustraße. Parking in the residential areas is mostly easy and tighter along the main routes. In the Mustersiedlung the streets are narrow and the houses small and closely spaced, so house numbers run quickly and are easy to overshoot — the number together with a note on which side of the street helps more than it sounds.
What we are usually called for in Ramersdorf
- Front doors of small terraced and settlement houses from the 1930s
- Doors that latched shut in post-war row buildings
- Office and commercial doors on the Rosenheimer and Balanstraße
- Cellar compartments in shared basements and older individual cellars
- Cylinder changes on tenant turnover in the settlement houses

Questions from Ramersdorf
My house is from the 1934 estate. Is there anything particular about it?
At the door, usually the cylinder rather than the lock. Houses in the Mustersiedlung have had cylinders replaced piecemeal over ninety years, and it is common to find one that stands proud of the fitting — which is a genuine security weakness rather than an aesthetic point, because a protruding cylinder can be gripped and snapped. We open through it as usual and will tell you if we see it. Correcting it is inexpensive as planned work.
Is Ramersdorf the same as Perlach?
They share an administrative district and are two quite different places. Ramersdorf is the older part in the northwest, with the 1930s estate and the pilgrimage church; Perlach, particularly Neuperlach, is a large 1960s estate several kilometres south. Locals distinguish them clearly, and an address described only as Ramersdorf-Perlach could be either. Street and house number resolve it.
The streets in the estate are narrow and the numbers run fast. What helps?
The house number plus which side of the street, and a note on anything distinctive — a hedge, a particular colour, a corner position. The Mustersiedlung was built with small houses closely spaced, so numbers advance quickly and are easy to overshoot in the dark. This is the one district where saying "third house after the corner" genuinely helps.
And the questions that are the same everywhere
- Do you actually speak English? Yes. By phone or on WhatsApp — writing is often easier than a call in a second language. Full answer
- What does a locksmith cost in Munich? It depends on the situation, the time and the driving distance. You get the final figure in writing before work starts. Full answer
- Is travel included in the price? Inside Munich, yes. Beyond it, 1.50 € for every kilometre of the whole journey from our premises — not just the part outside the city. Full answer
- Will I have to prove who I am? Yes. Photo ID with that address, or ID plus a document linking you to it. If it is all inside, say so when you call. Full answer
