The far western edge — old farmhouses and Munich's newest quarter, side by side.

Locksmith in Aubing

Aubing lies at the western edge of Munich and covers an unusually large area for a city district. Its old centre still has former farmhouses around the church of St. Quirin; a few kilometres south, Freiham is the largest new development in the city, still being built.

It is also the longest journey from the centre of any district in Munich, and this page says so rather than leaving you to discover it.

What it costs in Aubing

Aubing is in one of the Munich zones, which means travel is fully included in the fixed price — neither as a flat rate nor by the kilometre. What decides the price is which kind of opening it is and, for a door that has simply latched shut, what time it is.

Google address check
For address suggestions and — only for addresses in zone 3 — for calculating the road distance, the address you enter is transmitted to Google Ireland Limited. Details are in our privacy policy.

The address decides the zone, and the zone is decided by its postcode. In Munich zones 1 and 2 travel is included; in zone 3 we calculate it from the actual driving distance.

When this price does not apply

  • Replacement parts such as cylinder, mortise lock or escutcheon
  • A situation that turns out to differ from what was described

In these cases our technician quotes the price before starting work, in writing. If you decline, there is no charge.

Where Aubing is

Aubing sits at the western edge of Munich. The old centre gathers around the church of St. Quirin on the Altostraße. Neuaubing lies to the northeast with the estate around the Wiesentfelser Straße; the small settlements of Lochhausen and Langwied lie to the north. To the south, Freiham has been under construction for some years — a new quarter planned for tens of thousands of residents. The main routes are the Bodenseestraße, the Altostraße and the Aubinger Straße, with the Westkreuz and Aubing station as further reference points. Pasing adjoins to the east.

What the buildings are like

Very heterogeneous and spread over a large area. In Alt-Aubing, Lochhausen and Langwied stand former farmhouses and small-scale village building, partly from the nineteenth century, with old hardware on side, stable and yard doors. Neuaubing consists largely of works housing estates with flats whose cylinders have been changed over the years. Freiham is new throughout, laid out as a single development with underground parking. Between them are terraced estates with their own front doors and garages.

Getting to you

Aubing is reached by the Bodenseestraße and the motorway to the west, but it lies at the outermost edge of the city — the journey from the centre is the longest of any Munich district, and the travel component reflects that. It is calculated from the actual road distance, so an address in Neuaubing and one in Freiham are priced as the different journeys they are. In Freiham the situation changes month by month as construction proceeds: streets that exist on a map may not yet be open, and it is worth saying which access road is usable.

What we are usually called for in Aubing

  • House and yard doors in former farmhouses in Alt-Aubing
  • Flat doors in the works housing estates of Neuaubing
  • New flats in Freiham with locking systems and underground parking
  • Terraced house doors and garages in the estates
  • Outbuildings and farm buildings with older locking

Questions from Aubing

I live in Freiham and the streets keep changing. What should I tell you?

Which access road is currently usable, along with the address. Freiham is an active building site as well as a residential quarter, and roads open and close as construction proceeds — satellite navigation is regularly a step behind. If you know that one approach is blocked or that a particular junction is closed, that single sentence is worth more than anything else you can say.

Is Aubing expensive to reach?

It is the longest journey of any district in Munich, so the travel component is at the upper end — and we would rather tell you that than have you find it on the invoice. It is calculated from the actual road distance to your address, so Neuaubing near the Westkreuz and a farmhouse in Langwied are genuinely different figures. If your situation can wait until the daytime band, that saves considerably more than the distance costs.

My house is a former farmhouse with very old doors. Can they be opened without damage?

Usually yes, and older locks are often mechanically simpler than modern cylinders. The difficulty tends to be the door rather than the lock — frames that have settled over a century, hinges that have dropped, corrosion in an unheated outbuilding. Where something genuinely has to be replaced we say so before starting. A photograph on WhatsApp is worth a good deal on a door of that age.
